n8n is a low-code workflow automation tool that allows you to connect different services together with custom logic (think syncing your CRM with an internal database or allowing companies to easily build Slack bots for their products). We launched 1.5 years ago to a ton of interest, and things have accelerated since then:

  • With 60m Docker pulls, loads of people are using our product already. There is a huge demand for what we're doing
  • With 19k stars, we are in the top 800 of the 238m projects on GitHub
  • We have a community of 30k people who love our product

VCs are really excited about this: we were Sequoia's first seed investment in Europe, and have just raised another $12m. We're using that money to grow awareness and usage even faster and accelerate monetization. n8n is a company going places fast, and this is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor.

About the role:

As a Senior Backend Engineer at n8n, you will:

  • Build, improve and maintain our workflow automation tool, making sure it is as easy to use as possible, properly tested, simple to extend, and ultimately driving value for our users
  • Work on our backend engineering priorities: building integrations and other features for the product and improving our cloud product
  • Support the test-driven development of the software stack (e.g. code reviews, unit tests, CI) and documentation
  • Work closely with the engineering team, and cross-functionally with product managers, designers and developer advocates, along with the founder and senior management to help drive further growth of the company
Requirements:
  • You are an expert with Node.js and Typescript, and have worked on several complex tech products
  • Experience with cloud computing - We're using Azure, but are equally excited by folks from an AWS or GCP background
  • Experience working with containerisation and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, Cypress
  • Relational database design and SQL programming skills (SQLite, PostgreSQL)
  • Bonus points: experience in scalable on-premise apps, experience working with GraphQL or Electron
  • Interest in open source

This role can be done from anywhere within Europe. We can sponsor visas to Germany; for any other country, you need to have existing right to work. Our company language is English.

-
  • Rapid career progression. We are looking to hire 'rising stars', who can grow with the company into more senior roles
  • Transparency. We all know what everyone's working on, how's the company doing - the whole shebang
  • A passionate team. We love our product. We have regular office hackathons to see who can build the coolest thing with it
  • We're big fans of open source, and you'll get $100 per month to give to projects you care about
  • Being fair is really important to us. Equity? Of course we give you equity
  • 30 minute call with Dale (me!) our Talent Manager
  • 90 min at home tech task
  • 60 min Technical Interview with our Senior Engineers
  • 30 minute call with our CEO
We typically move through this process super quickly - it usually takes less than 5 days after receiving your technical task.
