The primary function of the Seismic Data Technician role is to improve and support access for client technical teams to high quality seismic data & information through metadata capture, data loading and standardisation as defined by client seismic data governance.

• Participate in the cataloguing of seismic data in accordance with DM governance.

• Assign corporate survey names.

• Transfer data to appropriate locations within file storage areas.

• Load seismic and velocity data to corporate repositories (primarily Studio for Petrel) following DM guidelines.

• Perform gap analysis and reporting on received seismic deliverables.

• Calculate and perform mis-tie, phase and amplitude correction on seismic data in Petrel for verification by client technical teams.

• Participate in regular reporting and communication with the Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst, Data & Analytics Manager and user stakeholders to ensure work progress is recorded.

• Distribute seismic data by assisting with the transfer of data to other applications (such as GeoTeric or DUG).

• Adhere to client DM governance as applied to seismic data.

• Identify and remedy data errors, where appropriate reporting them to the Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst.

• Understand and adhere to data confidentiality and rights management while handling seismic data.

• Report problems with the security of corporate data stores to the Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst, ensure that data added to these stores is secured in accordance with DM governance.

• Utilise time management and prioritisation skills to complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner.

• Merge, resample, crop and decimate seismic data along with any other seismic related tasks as required by the Data & Analytics Manager or Lead Petrotechnical Data Analyst.

Skills/Experience:

• Expert user of petrotechnical applications including some or all of the following; Petrel & Blueback Geophysics Toolbox, DUG, GeoTeric, Paleoscan, Rokdoc (essential).

• Experience with Studio for Petrel and Petrel Reference Project management (essential).

• Advanced skills working with and manipulating seismic data (essential).

• Experience of workflows and data handling throughout the E&P data lifecycle including loading data to petrotechnical applications (essential).

• Excellent communication, teamwork skills and exemplary attention to detail (essential).

• Advanced numeracy, analytical and computer skills, notably MS Excel (essential).

• Working knowledge of geodetics within the context of seismic survey geometry (essential).

• Experience with workflow creation and usage within Petrel (highly desirable).

Education:

Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in a geoscience or computing science discipline.
