Lead Pipeline Engineer
Location: Houston, TX
Assignment Type: Contract role
Description of the Function:
The Lead Pipeline Engineer is a key contributor to the successful delivery of the LNG pipeline system design. S/he works closely with the Project Engineering Manager and Engineering Subcontractor to develop the pipeline design deliverables on-time and cost-effectively, while complying with scope, project and regulatory requirements and industry standards. Notably, s/he supports the development of the pipeline stress analysis calculations by the Engineering Subcontractor, reviews all project pipeline design deliverables and participates proactively in project technical reviews.
Additionally, the Lead Pipeline Engineer provides technical support and advice to other project disciplines (e.g., procurement, fabrication) and interfaces with Client and Client's Installation Contractor on pipeline construction related matters.
The Lead Pipeline Engineer is a pragmatic and solution-driven individual with strong leadership, analytical and communication skills, and a proven track record in delivering safe and robust pipeline designs.

Key Responsibilities:
- Contributes to development of Project Design Basis, including but not limited to identification of applicable codes and standards and performance of preliminary pipeline design checks and sizing calculations.
- Works with Engineering Subcontractor to develop design calculation sheets and Abaqus Pipeline Stress Models, including global and detailed models; reviews model progress and interim results to ensure compliance to project requirements and anticipate issues; takes the lead on resolving any technical issues encountered.
- Ensures Pipeline Design risks are identified and managed effectively.
- Participates in Project Technical Reviews, including but not limited to Design Reviews, Risk Reviews, Cold-Eyes Reviews, etc., and supports resolution of follow-up actions.
- Reviews pipeline design documentation, including but not limited to pipeline drawings, design reports, material specifications, etc., and ensures compliance with project requirements.
- Reviews pipeline construction and commissioning specifications produced by Engineering Subcontractor to ensure compliance with project requirements; reviews key construction, installation, and commissioning documentation (produced by others) and ensures Project Engineering Specifications are followed.
- Reviews Pipeline Design-related Technical Queries, Deviations and Design Changes.
- Provides technical support to procurement and fabrication teams, Client, and Client Installation Contractor.
Reporting Level:
- The Lead Pipeline Engineer reports to the Project Engineering Manager operationally and reports to the Engineering Director functionally.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master of Science degree preferred).
- At least 15 years' experience leading pipeline design activities, preferably in LNG, LPG and/or cryogenics projects.
- Previous experience in LNG terminal and jetty systems preferred.
- Previous experience in anchored pipeline systems and stainless-steel expansion joints preferred.
- Understanding of Abaqus pipeline analysis software and modelling techniques
- Understanding of onshore aboveground pipeline and jetty construction techniques.
- Ability to identify pragmatic and robust solutions to technical problems, with a bias for proven solutions.
- Strong leadership, analytical and communication skills.
- Louisiana Professional Engineer (P.E.) License preferred.
