Job Description

Position: Technical Writer

Start date: within the next month

Duration: 12+ months

Work hours: 7-3pm – could be flexible and do 8-5 or 9-6pm

Remote: local candidates who can come onsite once covid lifts (sept 8th) – will be few days/week remote

Work Authorization: USC

Day to Day:

  • Work with the Technical Communications and Documentation Manager to define and build the communications department by:
    • Updating and maintaining internal sites,
    • Adhering to and enhancing established processes, style guidelines, and standards
    • Interviewing and working with internal stakeholders to determine areas of improvement in GSIRT information sites and communication processes
    • Implementing and improving internal communications processes
  • Review and edit technical briefings, infographics, help guides, service catalogs, online content, and other operational documentation for quality, consistency, and accuracy
  • Coordinate review cycles with our internal staff for all developed material using established processes
  • Create Microsoft Word and PowerPoint templates
  • Will be working on Incident Response Center/Cybersecurity alert information, internal team information, and more

Must Haves:

  • 2+ years of experience in technical writing or relevant similar experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Primarily Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Experience with usability and improving material presentation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including experience working with executives and technological individuals and strong ability to dive in and work independently to get what’s needed
  • SharePoint experience (open to flexing on this) and comfortable learning new tools
  • Cybersecurity knowledge and/or experience (someone who is really excited about cybersecurity but no formal experience is fine)
  • Simple diagram creation experience
  • Experience writing technical content for an active website
  • Someone who is a fan of the Oxford Comma!
  • Experience troubleshooting Word documents and working with figures
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or equivalent
  • SAMPLES: Excellent Grammar, No typos or spelling mistakes, Consistent format/bullets, Word Styles experience is a bonus

Nice to haves:

  • Table of Contents creation and/or updating experience
  • Experience using Office 365, Visio, Confluence and Jira
  • Previous experience setting up and maintaining collaborative team web sites
  • Experience with Jira or similar ticket-based tracking system
  • Experience with content development
