The Opportunity

PCG’s Education Consulting service line seeks a number of contract eLearning Content Writers for a project to create professional development to introduce educators to a new English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics curriculum. This project provides the opportunity to support educators in delivering a highly complex and exciting (ELA) and mathematics curriculum that prioritizes equity and actualizes college and career ready standards. The Content Writer will develop the written content and script for short videos that orient teachers to the curriculum for grades PK­–12 (a full year of instruction for each grade). The Content Writer will introduce the curriculum and its tools, which include unit plans, Teacher Facilitation Guides, teacher and student materials for daily lessons, and mini-lessons to support or extend learning for students. This is a contract role required to deliver this professional development series, which must be completed by August 31, 2020.

About PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line

PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line works with states, districts, and schools to address a wide spectrum of needs such as curriculum development, instructional resources audits, design and facilitation of professional development and professional learning communities, school improvement, and program reviews.  Recent project engagements have included the development of the EngageNY grades 6–12 English Language Arts Common-Core aligned curriculum for the New York State Education Department, design and delivery of a system of professional learning for the Connecticut State Department of Education, and the creation of training and resources to support transition to the college and career standards for the Florida Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Use outlines and storyboards provided by subject matter experts to draft engaging narration for approximately 81 brief videos (between 90 seconds and 5 minutes) that will introduce the curriculum as a whole, as well as each individual unit of the curriculum.
  • Edit content provided by subject matter experts for tone, cadence, and consistency.
  • Use best practices learning theory, instructional design, and content creation to keep participants engaged and help them get the information they need to deliver the ELA instruction effectively.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and eLearning developers to advise on the application of appropriate instructional tools and strategies to accomplish the learning outcomes for the professional development videos (will be developed in Articulate Storyline).
  • Create and/or copyedit any supporting documents or handouts/tools required to accompany the videos.
  • Work with eLearning developers to adjust the video scripts and materials as needed.
  • Prepare scripts in a format usable for voice talent to record voiceovers.
  • Participate in a highly-collaborative, rapid development process and working in a team environment that includes regular engagement with team members, peer review, and other formative feedback.
  • Meet tight project timelines.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Orientation

  • Excellent writing skills; ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio and video scripts
  • Ability to quickly build and iterate content for eLearning
  • Good time management skills
  • An eye for detail to copyedit and proof final scripts and materials
  • Driven to seek out and use feedback to improve and to grow
  • Able to work under tight timelines and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality
  • Technically proficient with Google Suite (specifically docs and slides), Microsoft Office, Internet search
  • Experience with Articulate Storyline preferred but not required.
  • Able to quickly pick up and learn new technology platforms with minimal training

Required/Desired Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in instructional design and adult learning
  • Experience with digital learning and K-12 professional development a plus
