Senior Writer for the Child Welfare Information Gateway Project

ICF’s Child Welfare and Education line of business has a broad portfolio of research and technical assistance projects that support federal and state agencies working across the spectrum of issues and topical areas impacting children and families. We are currently seeking a Senior Writer to work on the Child Welfare Information Gateway project, the information dissemination service for the Children’s Bureau, U.S. DHHS.

Under the supervision of the Team Lead for Product Development, the Senior Writer supports the Information Gateway contract by writing various Information Gateway publications, writing web content, and providing additional editorial services.

The position is on-call and home-based.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, write, and edit print and print publications, web content, reports and other products as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, social work, public policy/administration, statistics, economics, or related field.
  • Minimum ten years of experience writing print products, web content and/or other products in a social science/human services environment.
  • Proficient in MS applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Minimum ten years of experience in juvenile justice, human services, behavioral health, and/or child and family issues topics.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience conducting/writing literature reviews and/or writing annotated summaries of research.
  • Experience in report-writing and other professional writing.
  • Experience providing general project support, such as activity tracking, task coordination, financial recordkeeping, and/or document formatting.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.
