Consultant Writer / Editor

Climate Nexus is seeking a part-time consultant writer/ editor to work on an exciting new website project focused on current government efforts to bailout the fossil fuel producers and consumers and the climate implications of doing so. The initial contract for this work will be for three months, it is likely that there will be the option to renew this contract for an additional three months. This position is location-flexible and able to be performed remotely.

Main responsibilities

• Planning, researching, commissioning, writing and editing content
• Identify topics of interest for website audience
• Establish and update an editorial calendar
• Act as editor and publish content to the website
• Conduct simple analysis of available data
• Produce and post regular short posts for the website, synthesizing materials from longer reports
• where appropriate
• Ensure that any content you produced is edited by other members of the team
• Commission and edit guest posts from network of partners
• Work with partners to commission longer reports on specific topics
• Work with the digital team to identify potential audiences for content and target them
• Regularly update other website content, including “pillar pages” explaining different aspects of the
• government bailout and how it affects the fossil fuel industry.
• Collaborate with a team including an analyst, digital marketer, graphic designer, and
• communications specialists.

Experience

• Detailed understanding of finance, economics
• Self-starter, able to perform efficient, independent work, as well as collaborate with a small team
• Knowledge of the workings of government, particularly the Fed and Treasury, and related
• oversight.
• Experience with filing FOIAs.

Skills

• Familiarity with using simple CMS/ Web-Publishing.
• Excellent writing and editing.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to synthesize and analyze financial data.
• Experience using multimedia and digital tools.
• Flexibility and ability to multitask, verbal, and cross-cultural communications skills.
• Strong time and priority management.
