Consultant Copy Editor, HDRO

UNDP’s Human Development Report Office requires the services of an experienced copy editor to assist in the production of a series of academic papers related to the 2019 Human Development Report. The consultant will report to the HDR Production Manager and will work from an external office.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

The copy editor will:

  • Edit texts (details in section 3) of a specialized or technical nature related to the 2019 Human Development Report to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion, and conformity with UNDP and HDRO standards, policy and practice.
  • Consult with the HDRO to clarify ambiguities, ensure conformity with specific aspects of editorial policy and practice, and rectify substantive errors.
  • Format edited text in Word. Check copy after layout against submitted Word file, noting any omissions, additional text, or final revisions.
  • In consultation with the HDRO, agree on specific return dates for each paper to be edited and communicate and explain any potential delays immediately to the HDRO.
  • Additional responsibilities may include writing headings and figure titles, basic fact-checking.

Scope of work:

  • Edit up to 10 (ten) HDR 2019 background papers, as described in section 2, with average word count of 10,000 words. The consultant to provide the cost per word for editing.
  • Format-layout each background paper in MS Word (HDRO will provide the template), with average length of 25 pages. The consultant to provide the cost per paper.

Schedule:

  • The contracted editorial services will commence in January, 2019 and conclude on or before 31 March, 2020. In HDRO/UNDP payments will be processed upon completion of the services.
