Brief description of the work plan

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Jude Mukundane, the Technical Coordinator of the project, developing new ICT resources in cooperation with the project's community action/participatory design effort; and integrating ICT components into the existing RootIO (rootio.org ) architecture. This candidate with strong general technical skills would be able to learn many of the domain-specific approaches on the job.

The position is suited to candidates with strong programming abilities, a public history of contributing to free/open software projects, and an interest in working with radio, telephony and audio user interfaces. The candidate must be comfortable working on complex projects with evolving objectives and will be expected to be a proactive, independent problem solver and innovator, and facilitate collaboration within a broad network of colleagues across disciplines and for engagement with the wider international radio community.

Main requirements

Bachelor (MS preferred) in CS or related field, 2-4 years experience

Experience with web development using python with Flask framework

Familiarity with web front-end frameworks (Bootstrap, JQuery) and technologies (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript)

Good grasp of SQL and relational database management systems

Knowledge of Systems administration on debian-based linux systems

Experience with containerization and virtualization tools (Vagrant, virtualbox, docker)

Familiarity with distributed computing and asynchronous programming paradigms

Experience with code subversioning using GIT/Github

Experience with Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration

Excellent communication skills

Experience working in a team

Sense of humor and interest in music would be added advantages

Willingness to travel, as required

Fluency in English (verbal and written)
